September 4, 2006

  • 2006 has been a year of firsts.  Father, pastor, and now home
owner.  I wonder what’s in store next?  We moved into our
house on Saturday (many thanks to Jeff, Dave, Mike, Charles, and
Josh).  Once the grass (looks like an Amazon rain forest) is mowed
and the house furnished, we’ll have a house warming party.  In the
meantime, any tips or info on house maintenance would be GREATLY
    appreciated.  Topics include:  energy conservation,
    landscaping, or anything else.

  • yayer! go house!!!!
letsee… tips… hmm… turn off the lights in a room if you’re not in it, hahaha. and… plant flowers to make the yard look pretty. and for anything else… dont shower too long. THere, thats energy conservation, landscaping, AND an “anything else”. :D :D.
have fun unpacking, call me up if u ever need help with nething else!

  • you should know the whole turn thermostat up or down according to the temp, but with the baby it wouldn’t be wise.
uhm. get good appliances? pull the plugs out of lights, actually. apparently appliances that are off will still consume energy.
i don’t know how you are with landscaping. but trees are nice to have if you don’t have allergies; they’re shady. bushes and shrubs along a wall protect against wind.
    that’s all i know; i don’t keep up with the house’s maintenance much –”

  • congrats on the new house, cant believe its the 3rd moving since u’ve been in atl.

  • what kinda grass do u guys have over there? hope it’s not crab grass….it’s like a weed….in fact…it is a weed. I prefer the nice kentucky blue grass….which is not really all that blue….

  • wow. that’s great. congratulations!

  • sweet!!  where do you guys live now?

  • INCANDESCENT LIGHTBULBS!!! i think that’s what they’re called… the ones that cost more, but will save you money in the long run. and more importantly it saves energy :) YAY for treehuggers

  • 2006 could still usher in another first for you – like NOT rooting for the Lake-show =)

  • Congratulations!

I think they’re called flourescent light bulbs.

  • Congrats Thomas!!! uhhhhhhh i dont know anything bout those topics! ><…..but i hope ur heater n mostly everything runs on electricity cuz it apparently costs less than having gas (for like heaters or something) so yea……

  • congrats thomas!

turn the thermostat to 78 at all times…and get fans! :)

umm change the air filters every month so the baby can breathe clean air in the house!

dont water the grass every day like i did (although our grass is very very green now) cuz your water bill will make you cry! haha

  • Congrat on the house! You now officially work for the mortgage company. :) btw, Abby was 2 1/2 when we started the potty. She did show interest for a long time. Mei mei has not started, but I have feeling she’ll be earlier since we want sto do everything her big sister does.

  • Oh advice on house. I have a friend that has a rock garden. All you need is to spray some weed killer every once in a while.

  • 2 biggest money savers in a home are ceiling fans and those high efficiency light bulbs. The bulbs are the easiest to put in, but they do have a slight lag when turning them on. I bought all mine from IKEA and paid about a third of what they cost at Wal-Mart. Replaced my first one about a month ago. It burned every night for at least 8 hrs for over 5 years. Saved tons on my electricity bill. The fans were a bit of a pain in the butt to put in, but they install with only a couple of basic tools. Cut my heating and cooling costs by 30%. Oh and if you plan to stay a while replace your windows if they haven’t already been done. I have already saved enough money on mine to have paid for them and they are only a few years old.

  • i think everyone’s talking about those swirly light looking bulbs hehe.  i have those all over the house and yea you should get those =)  maybe i’ll visit you sometime when i go up there!   i think im going to fulton hg this friday

  • Hire mexicans to mow your lawn?

  • Congrats on the house. You could work on another first – rooting for Duke.

  • Now that you are a home owner, get ready for the endless amounts of letters informing you of “amazing refinancing deals”. You will be getting those at least 3 -10 times per week in the mail.

  • i submitted a fot to bbc
we’ll see if they show it:P

  • Great, congrats New Homeowner! I just want to thank you for your continued comments and encouragements; they always keep me on track and motivated to move forward to the next step.  Abigail is looking more and more like you each day! Have a wonderful week, and send a hug to Kate for me!
